Movies I'd Like to See

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to see as many movies lately as I would like to, but there are certainly a bunch of movies out or coming out soon that I'd like to see... possibly over break.

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - I first read The Chronicles of Narnia when I was in 4th grade and had Mr. Klicker as a teacher. I read the first book and quickly tore through the rest of them. I haven't reread them in years, but I can't wait to see it. And Liam Neeson, who is a badass, will be the voice of Aslan. A fine pick.
  • King Kong - I think the first time I saw a preview for this was when we all went to see Star Wars: Episode III at the midnight showing, and I remember thinking that the movie looked horrible, the animation was fake, and it looked like it was going to be a big piece of shit. We all laughed at how bad it looked. But recently, I've actually found myself really looking forward to seeing Peter Jackson's King Kong. I don't know what happened, but it really looks like it's going to be good. Plus, the fact that I just Checked Rotten Tomatoes, and right now it's at a 96% rating, which is fucking amazing for Rotten Tomatoes. I'm starting to wonder if it's going to be like one of those experiences where your mind is totally blown because it's something so... groundbreaking? New? Innovative? That it is absolutely and truly unlike anything ever done before.
  • Walk the Line - I wanted to see this one long before Jamie DeMonte recommended it. From the previews (and Jamie's say-so), it looks like Joaquin Phoenix does a great version of the Man in Black, and I really think Johnny Cash's life would make a fantastic movie.
  • Capote - I wanted to see this since I read about it in the GQ I snagged from the convenience store when they were giving them away at the beginning of the month. I really have liked Truman Capote since I read In Cold Blood my Senior year of High School. I think that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a very versatile actor, and he doesn't get enough credit for it, and so I think that he'll pull of the role of Capote nicely. Plus, Frank Tascone recommended it, and I trust him. *Cue up Selby voice: "I wouldn't tell this to my classes ten years ago, but Truman Capote was a homosexual."* Only you, Selb Dogg, Only you.
Plus, Maggie said I could borrow season 1 of Lost. I've been interested in it, but I haven't had the time. So maybe I'll catch the bug.

P.S. I'm going to try to restart my blogging. I usually don't have much to say, and what I say will most likely not be too important, but at least it keeps me writing.

I am a former Lowe Disciple, and if he hadn't left for Wyoming, I still would be. But nonetheless, thanks for the comment! I'll check out your blog once I get a break from finals week.

Hang tough (sorry, my one and only New Kids reference for the day) and good luck with the finals! If you have any with Dr. Price tell him that Athena says hi! We still keep in touch.

Unfortunately, no Price for me this semester, but since I work for the English department, I see him all the time. So when I see him, I'll tell him for you :)

At any rate, you seem pretty cool, so if you ever are down in A-Town, let me know and maybe we can hang out and get ome drinks or something and chat.

sounds like a good idea. I actually was suppose to come to the mighty mount last year to talk in one of lowe's classes but we just could not schedule it and then he went running towards the range out west. i will have to plan a trip once the weather gets better. i know those roads in alliance can be a b*tch. besides, i need to pick up some new mount sweatshirts since mind are getting worn out. holy crap, i sounds old saying that!

Haha, yeah, I know what you're saying. I need to pick up some new Mount gear too... maybe before I leave for break.

one can never have enough purple! i think i was puking it up just before graduation! hey, is dr. makens still teaching? wow, we had some good times in her classes! you have to respect a professor that used to end class with "eveyone out of the pool, class is over!" lol!

Sam said...

Yeah, Makens is still here, but I haven't had her. I've surely heard a lot about her though... haha. I showed up an hour late to my SCE presentation because... I dunno... I just lost track of the time. Dr. Makens said, "Don't worry, we're all crazy and I'm the worst of them." Hah... gotta love her.

that lady is such a root! i think i might still have one of the movies that she lent me laying around my apartment somewhere. opppss. i strongly doubt that she remembers. so are you an english or writing major?

Sam said...

I'm a writing major, but I'll also probably have a major (or at least a minor) in Theatre.

A. M. Mericsko said...

i was a writing major and a theatre minor. my class was the rookie class for the actual writing major. trial by fire. great times! i roomed with an accounting/mathematics major. i think together we probably made a really well-rounded person!

Ah, so I'm sure you know Rudy, Doc and Deb. I think the writing major has come a long way, but it's still being worked out.

Right now I live in an on-campus house with a bunch of other guys involved with the Theatre. It's a pretty sweet arrangement, and I love it. Plus we're right across from the campus center, so that isn't bad either ;)

oh yeah, i remember rudy and doc. hendel, but i doubt they remember me. deb is not ringing any bells, though. that does sound like a sweet arrangement. theatre people are good folks. do you do any acting at mount?

Sam said...

Yeah, I was in the Pirates of Penzance last year and Rudy's show this year, and I'll be in Much Ado About Nothing in the spring. Did you?

nice! keep me posted on when the spring show is. no, i kind of just took the classes and the most involved that i got with production was doing the stage work hours required for stage craft. but i did always attend the shows. looking back, i wish i would've been more involved (although i know i can't act to save my soul!) i also ran track and cross country so those tended to keep me busy and out od trouble. well, not sure about the second claim.....
